More Gold!

Plushenko wins Marshalls World Cup

December 3, 2004

Evgeni Plushenko may be just beginning to get into skating shape, but it would be hard for him to look much better than he did at the Marshalls World Cup of Figure Skating in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Plushenko won the Gold Medal and the $50,000 first prize in only his second competition of the season. He won Gold at last week’s ISU Grand Prix event – Cup of Russia – in Moscow.

The three 6.0’s Plushenko received for artistic marks -- the only ones awarded in the competition -- give him a total of 62.

The 2004 World Champion, Plushenko, said, “I am tired, but that was good. My conditioning is getting better. For next year I want to prepare a new quad salchow, perhaps for the (2005) Worlds or for the Olympic year (2006).”

The 2005 World Championships are scheduled in Moscow on March 14-20.

Plushenko skated to music from “The Godfather”, interpreted by his Edvin Martin. Plushenko was strong in the technical part of the program landing a quad and seven triple jumps. His speed and height appeared to be in mid-season form.

His costume complemented Martin’s music. Plushenko wore an all black costume with only Cardinal red insets on the palms of his hand coverings.
